Let the Holbrook / Petrified Forest KOA Journey be your base camp to explore the surrounding national parks and monuments. Easy access to I-40 gets you to the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest National Park (20 minutes). The Grand Canyon (2.5 hours) and Canyon de Chelly (1.5 hours) are easy drives. Walk around the rim of Meteor Crater, less than an hour west. Take a day trip to Monument Valley (2.5 hours) or Fort Apache (1.5 hours). Or head north to Four Corners Monument and Arches and Canyonlands national parks. In Holbrook, drive through town on the original Route 66 (don’t miss the historic Wigwam Motel). Visit Holbrook’s museum that features the Hashknife Outfit cattle ranch and Route 66. Back at the campground, you can relax, swim, eat at the Chuck Wagon cookout and plan your next day’s adventures.
